He announced it, repeated it and he did it! This Saturday, November 2, during the East vs West 15, Devon Larratt triumphed in resounding fashion against Oleg Petrenko, thus winning his third East vs West world champion belt. After his decisive victories against Kydyrgali Ongarbaev and David Dadikyan, few expected to see the reigning 105 kg world champion, Oleg Petrenko, be surpassed in this way.

Round 1

From the first round, Devon Larratt imposes his control in the center of the table thanks to his pronation strength, leaving no opening for Oleg Petrenko. Destabilized and short of solutions, Oleg intentionally commits a foul by taking his elbow out of the pad. After a restart where the scenario repeats itself, Devon takes the first round, immediately asserting his ascendancy in the match.

Round 2

The second round turned out to be the longest of the match, but despite his efforts, Oleg Petrenko never managed to reverse the trend against Devon Larratt. Caught in the grip of the champion, Oleg accumulates an elbow foul and two warnings which end up costing him the round. Devon emerges victorious once again, consolidating his advantage in this match.

Round 3

Just like in the first round, Devon Larratt quickly takes control to keep Oleg Petrenko in a defensive position. With no escape, Oleg ended up conceding the round by committing two fouls, thus offering another victory to Devon.

Round 4

The most memorable aspect of this fourth round was the embarrassment Devon Larratt caused the referees when he adopted an atypical position, which was certainly surprising but nevertheless perfectly legal. The referees gave him a warning, before Engin called him to order to return to a conventional stance.

At the start of this 4th round, Devon flash pinned Oleg Petrenko, sealing the final score at 4-0.

Throughout the match,Devon repeated to Oleg an ironic “Don’t give up! » in Ukrainian, a nod to the latter's comments during the press conference, where he affirmed that he would never give in. However, three of the four rounds were ultimately won by Devon due to his opponent's fouls.

Before receiving his belt, Devon Larratt took on Artyom Morozov on the left arm.

Post-match reactions

Devon Larratt

You think of 49 is being a certain age and all it is is an amount of time to get things right. The more time you have on the planet the more is an opportunity to get things right. And with good people around me I've managed to continue to improve and refine my game. I feel I'm better today than I was when I was a young champion. I want to train with the georgians, with the kazaks, with the turks. I want to train with the east and gather ideas so that I can better understand the sport and then I'll reintegrate and maybe I can reach another level. All paths lead to Levan. It's a daunting task. Someone must defeat him. I'm not at the front of the charge right now. I'll continue to gather my energy and observe. Michael, Jerry, Vitalii, Ermes, these are all people who are ahead of me in the fight and there is probably more. We don't know where Brian Shaw is going to end up, same for Kiril. I'm just happy to still be fighting at 49.
